Job Summary:

The Director of Design & Engineering is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to the design and engineering team. They will oversee the development and execution of designs that adhere to grid compliance and permitting requirements. The Director will collaborate with internal teams to establish and achieve companywide design goals aimed at optimizing cycle times and overall design efficiency. The role requires a deep understanding of electrical and PV design, as well as the ability to provide guidance, expertise, and training to the design team while decreasing design turn times and increase design efficiency levels throughout the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design department to meet design turn times of 3 days and manage design reporting to share appropriate feedback with the team.

  • Provide strategic direction for the design and engineering team to ensure accuracy and high-quality output.

  • Collaborate with Design Supervisors and leadership to set companywide design goals and improvements.

  • Create and maintain relationships with department heads whose scope of work impact the design department to promote accountability while upholding design standards.

  • Act as the ultimate subject matter expert in electrical and PV design, offering guidance and expertise.

  • Manage the overall design queue and resource allocation to support the design team.

  • Oversee the execution of designs, emphasizing strict adherence to grid compliance and permitting requirements.

  • Conduct comprehensive audits of design processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and quality.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for design processes.

  • Drive continuous improvement efforts to enhance the overall quality, accuracy, and efficiency of the design process.

  • Provide valuable feedback and support to Design Supervisors and their teams to ensure design quality standards are upheld.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Highschool diploma is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in solar design and engineering.

  • 5+ years in a management role.

  • Strong leadership and management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Deep understanding of electrical and PV design principles.

  • Ability to provide guidance and training to a team of designers and engineers.

PV Designer II: Lehi – 3025319

As a PV Designer II, you will be responsible for learning and refining our process of designing code-compliant residential solar photovoltaic systems following engineering department policy. This is a fast paced, yet detail-oriented position.

Essential Duties:

  • Manage all as-built requests for approved in-field design changes
  • Execute designs that adhere to grid compliance and permitting requirements
  • Maintain design compliance by referencing structural, electrical and fire codes
  • Perform accurate system sizing calculations
  • Create permit applications for submission in different jurisdictions
  • Efficiently conduct BOM preparation
  • Design solar projects using multiple programs and software
  • Troubleshoot design and construction issues in the field and communicate updates accordingly
  • Assist with additional tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent required
  • 2+ years of experience in AutoCAD or similar software is required
  • 2+ years of experience in the solar industry is required
  • Ability to work in a regular office environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel
  • Communicate effectively, professionally, and kindly
  • Obtains a strong sense of urgency and accountability
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, but not required
