Job Summary:
The Director of Design & Engineering is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to the design and engineering team. They will oversee the development and execution of designs that adhere to grid compliance and permitting requirements. The Director will collaborate with internal teams to establish and achieve companywide design goals aimed at optimizing cycle times and overall design efficiency. The role requires a deep understanding of electrical and PV design, as well as the ability to provide guidance, expertise, and training to the design team while decreasing design turn times and increase design efficiency levels throughout the department.
Responsibilities:

Lead the design department to meet design turn times of 3 days and manage design reporting to share appropriate feedback with the team.

Provide strategic direction for the design and engineering team to ensure accuracy and high-quality output.

Collaborate with Design Supervisors and leadership to set companywide design goals and improvements.

Create and maintain relationships with department heads whose scope of work impact the design department to promote accountability while upholding design standards.

Act as the ultimate subject matter expert in electrical and PV design, offering guidance and expertise.

Manage the overall design queue and resource allocation to support the design team.

Oversee the execution of designs, emphasizing strict adherence to grid compliance and permitting requirements.

Conduct comprehensive audits of design processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and quality.

Develop and implement comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for design processes.

Drive continuous improvement efforts to enhance the overall quality, accuracy, and efficiency of the design process.

Provide valuable feedback and support to Design Supervisors and their teams to ensure design quality standards are upheld.

Qualifications:

Highschool diploma is required.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in solar design and engineering.

5+ years in a management role.

Strong leadership and management skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Deep understanding of electrical and PV design principles.

Ability to provide guidance and training to a team of designers and engineers.
